The Coconut Cult FAQ’s
Product Information & Basics
What is Coconut Cult?
Coconut Cult is a dairy-free probiotic coconut yogurt made from organic coconut cream, coconut meat, water, and our proprietary blend of 16 live probiotic species. (Original flavor!) Every ounce is packed with 50 billion CFU of probiotics at the time of bottling.
Handcrafted by our Team in Ogden, Utah; it's a living fermented food designed to support a thriving gut microbiome.
No co-packers, no gums or fillers, and most importantly, no shortcuts. Every jar is a true synbiotic: a whole food that delivers both probiotics and prebiotics in every incredibly potent, tangy spoonful.
Our proprietary probiotic blend includes: L. helveticus, L. salivarius, L. lactis, L. rhamnosus, L. plantarum, L. acidophilus, S. thermophilus, B. breve, L. brevis, L. gasseri, L. casei, L. reuteri, B. longum, B. bifidum, B. infantis, L. fermentum
Where is your yogurt made?
Our production facility is in Ogden, Utah. We proudly do everything in-house — we do NOT use co-packers.
Every step, from fermenting and filling to packaging and shipping, is handled by our team. This is why we can guarantee the quality, potency, and integrity of every jar.
What makes Coconut Cult different from other yogurt brands?
Short answer: everything.
Some of the yogurts on the shelves are filled with refined sugar, gums, thickeners, preservatives and everything in between.
These can be gut disruptors; therefore, these yogurts are in no way, “helping" your gut.
Coconut Cult yogurt takes a completely different approach and is designed for your microbiome.
We start with whole ingredients: organic coconut cream, coconut meat, and water, then slowly ferment them with our custom blend of 16 super live probiotic species.
Every jar contains:
- 50 billion CFU per fluid ounce
- 16 live probiotic species
- Naturally occurring prebiotics from whole-food ingredients
- Zero added sugar in our Original flavor
- No gums, thickeners, preservatives, or artificial ingredients
- Whole/Organic ingredients only
We believe beneficial bacteria thrive best in real food. That's why we've spent years creating what we believe is the perfect home for probiotics to flourish.
The result is a rich, tangy, living fermented food packed with billions of live cultures in every spoonful.
What are your probiotic species?
We use a custom blend of 16 probiotic species:
- L. helveticus
- L. salivarius
- L. lactis
- L. rhamnosus
- L. plantarum
- L. acidophilus
- S. thermophilus
- B. breve
- L. brevis
- L. gasseri
- L. casei
- L. reuteri
- B. longum
- B. bifidum
- B. infantis
- L. fermentum
The diversity of strains is intentional: different species support different aspects of gut health, immunity, and overall well-being.
What are your ingredients?
You can find the ingredients and full nutritional information for every available flavor on our Product Page here.
Just click on the flavor you’d like to learn more about, and all the details will appear. If you have questions about a specific flavor, please feel free to send a message to our Team here. We're happy to chat!
How much sugar does your yogurt have?
Depends on the flavor! The Original flavor contains 2g of total sugar per serving, and zero grams of added sugar.
The naturally occurring sugar from coconut is almost entirely consumed by the probiotics during fermentation. What remains is minimal and natural.
Check out our Product Page for more nutritional information on our available flavors.
How does your CFU count work? Is it 50 billion or 100 billion?
Both! This can depend on the serving size you're using:
50 billion CFU per 1 fl oz (2 tablespoons)
100 billion CFU per 2 fl oz serving (4 tablespoons)
800 billion CFU per 16 oz jar
Are you vegan?
Yes, our core flavors are 100% vegan.
Occasionally, we collaborate with other brands to create limited-edition flavors that may contain non-vegan ingredients (such as honey). This is always clearly disclosed on the ingredients list and label for each collaboration flavor.
Are you organic?
Our core flavored yogurts carry a USDA Organic certification on each label.
Some limited-edition flavors may not carry the certification, not because the ingredients aren't organic, but because the certification process takes months, and limited-edition runs only last a short amount of time.
We always strive to use organic ingredients, and you can verify this by checking each flavor's ingredient label on our Shop All Page.
Where do you source your coconuts from?
We source our coconut Fair Trade from Thailand. No monkey labor is involved in the harvesting of our coconuts. Fair Trade certification ensures that the farmers we work with receive fair wages and operate under ethical working conditions.
Gut Health & Probiotic Benefits
Is your yogurt keto-friendly?
The Original flavor is very keto-compatible. With only 4g of total carbohydrates and 2g of dietary fiber per serving, the net carbs are just 2g per 2oz serving. Plus zero added sugars.
We always recommend checking the label of our other flavored yogurts, as different organic ingredients in some flavors will increase the carb count.
Is your yogurt Whole30 or paleo compatible?
Our Original flavor aligns well with both Whole30 and paleo dietary frameworks — it contains no added sugars, no dairy, no grains, no legumes, no artificial ingredients. It's whole food, fermented, and clean. That said, we always recommend checking with your specific program guidelines, as interpretation can vary. Flavors with added sweeteners (like coconut nectar) may not be Whole30 compliant.
Is your yogurt good for intermittent fasting?
Probiotic foods do contain calories and will break a fast. If you're fasting, we recommend consuming your 2oz serving during your eating window. Ideally, as the first food when you break your fast. This timing allows the live cultures to enter your digestive system alongside food, which can actually improve probiotic survival and colonization.
What are the benefits of eating your yogurt?
Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria that support a healthy gut microbiome, and a healthy gut microbiome touches almost every system in your body. Benefits associated with regular probiotic consumption may include:
- Less bloating and gas
- More regular digestion
- Lower inflammation
- Better digestion and nutrient absorption
- Improved mood and mental clarity (gut-brain axis)
- Healthier skin
- Weight management support
- Reduced allergy symptoms
- Boosted immunity
- Feeling full, longer
But not all probiotics are created equal. Probiotics need to be alive and active to do their job. Our yogurt contains live, thriving cultures, and our synbiotic formulation (probiotics + whole ingredients) is designed to help those cultures survive and colonize your gut.
How does gut health affect my overall health?
Your gut is home to trillions of bacteria that influence far more than just digestion. The gut microbiome is directly connected to your immune system (approximately 70% of immune cells live in the gut), your mental health via the gut-brain axis, your skin health through the gut-skin axis, and your metabolic health. This is why consistent probiotic consumption can have effects that reach well beyond the bathroom.
Can your yogurt help with bloating?
Yes, this is one of the most commonly reported benefits from our community. The live probiotic cultures in our yogurt help balance gut bacteria and support proper gut motility. Start with one serving per day (1-2 fl oz) and give your gut time to adjust.
Can your yogurt support mental health and mood?
Emerging research on the gut-brain axis suggests that a healthy gut microbiome can positively influence mood, anxiety levels, and cognitive function. The gut produces many of the same neurotransmitters as the brain, including serotonin.
By supporting a diverse, thriving gut microbiome through consistent probiotic consumption, you may notice improvements in mood, mental clarity, and stress response over time. This isn't a medical claim, it's what the science and our community are telling us.
Does coconut yogurt have natural prebiotics?
Yes, and this is a key part of what makes our yogurt a true synbiotic. Coconut naturally contains prebiotic compounds, including inulin-type fibers, that feed and nourish the probiotic cultures. The coconut and cacao ingredients in our yogurt aren't just flavor, they're fuel for the bacteria. This is why our probiotics are more effective than a standard supplement: they arrive with their own food source.
How does your yogurt compare to a probiotic supplement?
Think of our yogurt as a probiotic supplement in whole-food form — but better:
- CFU per serving: 100 billion vs. 10–50 billion (typical supplement)
- Probiotic strains: 16 vs. 1–5 (typical supplement)
- Prebiotics included: Yes (coconut + cacao) vs. Rarely
- Whole food matrix: Yes vs. No
- Added sugars: 0g (Original) vs. N/A
- Synbiotic: Yes vs. Rarely
The whole food matrix of our yogurt also helps protect the probiotics as they move through the acidic environment of the stomach, improving the likelihood that they reach your gut alive and active.
How does your yogurt compare to dairy yogurt for probiotics?
Traditional dairy yogurt typically contains 2–6 probiotic strains and anywhere from 1–6 billion CFU per serving. Our yogurt contains 16 strains and 100 billion CFU per 2oz serving, and unlike most dairy yogurts, which are pasteurized after fermentation (killing the cultures), our yogurt is never heat-treated post-fermentation. Every culture in every jar is alive.
We're dairy-free, vegan, and made with whole food organic ingredients, making us accessible to a much broader range of people, including those who are lactose intolerant, dairy-sensitive, or plant-based.
How does your yogurt compare to kombucha for gut health?
Kombucha is fermented tea with a diverse range of bacteria and yeast. It's a great probiotic food. However, our yogurt delivers a significantly higher CFU count per serving, a more diverse and targeted strain profile (16 specific species vs. the variable cultures in kombucha), and the synbiotic benefit of prebiotics included in the same serving. Kombucha is a great complement to a gut-healthy lifestyle — but it's not a replacement for a high-potency probiotic food.
When should I notice a difference once I start eating your yogurt?
This varies from person to person. Some people feel a difference in digestion after just one serving (hello, bathroom!). Others may see a noticeable difference in the appearance of their skin after eating our yogurt for a month or so.
For best results, we recommend starting with one 2oz serving per day, consistently. Your gut microbiome is built over time, not overnight.
Does your yogurt help with digestion after antibiotics?
Antibiotics can significantly disrupt the gut microbiome by wiping out beneficial bacteria alongside harmful ones. Probiotic-rich foods like ours can help replenish those beneficial cultures post-antibiotic. We recommend starting with a smaller serving (1oz) and increasing gradually as your gut adjusts. Prior to consuming, we always recommend consulting with your healthcare provider to ensure this is the right product for you.
Consumption & Use
Can I eat more than two fluid ounces?
Absolutely! Our recommended serving size is 2-4 fluid ounces to start.
Everyone's microbiome is different. We suggest starting with one serving before increasing your amount, especially if you're new to fermented foods or sensitive to high-potency probiotics. Start small and Increase gradually by 1oz at a time and observe how your body responds before adding more.
How long does the yogurt last once opened?
Our yogurt is a living, thriving probiotic, which means it’s perishable. That’s part of the magic. Once opened, we recommend consuming your jar within 2–3 weeks for peak potency and taste. To keep your cultures thriving:
- Always keep jars refrigerated (before and after opening)
- Use a clean spoon every time (no double-dipping!)
- Seal tightly to keep moisture and other microbes out
The “sell by/best by” date is printed on each jar in black bold lettering. This applies to unopened jars stored in the fridge. Once you crack the seal, it’s all about proper storage and gut intuition. If it smells funky (like rotten milk) or looks off, trust your judgement.
What does it taste like?
Our yogurt has a naturally effervescent, tangy flavor, similar to the sour, bubbly taste of kombucha. That's because what you're tasting is the actual work of live bacteria during fermentation. It's not sweet like conventional yogurt. If you're new to fermented foods, it can be surprising at first, but most of our community comes to absolutely crave it.
The more added coconut nectar or fruit in a flavor, the sweeter it will be. The Original flavor is the most tangy and is beloved by fermented food veterans.
When is the best time to eat the yogurt?
First thing in the morning, either on an empty stomach or with breakfast, is optimal for many people.
You can also enjoy it as an after-dinner snack. Either way, the probiotics will make their way into your digestive system and get to work. Consistency matters more than timing.
Can I freeze a jar of your yogurt to make it last longer?
We don't recommend freezing an entire jar, it will affect the texture and send some of the live probiotics into hibernation, reducing their potency. If you'd like to experiment with freezing, we suggest making yogurt bark or freezing it in an ice cube tray for use in smoothies. While the probiotics may be slightly less powerful after freezing, the majority should reactivate once they reach your digestive system.
How do I use your yogurt in recipes?
Our yogurt is incredibly versatile. Here are our favorite ways to use it:
- Smoothies — blend 2oz with frozen mango, pineapple, banana, and coconut water for a tropical gut-health smoothie
- Smoothie bowls — use as a creamy, probiotic-rich base and top with granola, berries, and seeds
- Overnight oats — mix with rolled oats and refrigerate overnight for a gut-nourishing breakfast
- Parfaits — layer with fresh fruit and granola
- As a topping — dollop on spicy dishes, grain bowls, or sweet potatoes as a dairy-free alternative to sour cream
- Dressings and dips — blend with lemon juice, herbs, and garlic for a probiotic-rich dressing
- Straight from the jar — the most popular option
One important note: do not heat the yogurt. High temperatures (above ~115°F) will kill the live cultures. Always add it after cooking, not during.
Can I bake with your yogurt?
You can use our yogurt in baking for its flavor, moisture, and creaminess, but be aware that baking temperatures will kill the live probiotic cultures. If your goal is probiotic benefit, enjoy the yogurt raw. Use it in baked goods for the taste and texture benefits; use it straight for the gut health benefits.
Shipping & Delivery
How long does it take to get my order?
We ship via UPS 2-Day and do not ship on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays. Our yogurt is a living, perishable product that needs to stay cold, so we've engineered our packaging specifically to maintain freshness within the 2-day domestic shipping window.
You'll receive an email and text when your order ships and again when it's delivered.
If your package is delayed beyond the 2-day window, please contact us immediately at orderonline@thecoconutcult.com.
Why is your yogurt so expensive?
Because it's comparable to a high-potency probiotic supplement, except it's a real, living, whole food.
Here's what goes into the price:
- Organic and Fair Trade certified ingredients
- A unique blend of 16 live probiotic cultures (not generic starter cultures)
- 100 billion CFU per 2oz serving.
- True synbiotic formulation (prebiotics + probiotics in one)
Why is your yogurt more expensive online than in the store?
Our online jars are 16oz and include the cost of 2-day priority shipping, individual handling by our warehouse team, frozen gel packs, and insulated shipping coolers to keep everything cold.
Retail shipping is done in bulk (much more economical), which is why in-store prices are lower.
How do I change my shipping address after placing an order?
If your order has been billed but not shipped, please contact our Team at orderonline@thecoconutcult.com and we will do our best to change the address!
Unfortunately, once it processes/ships we are unable to do an address change as this will add a day or more to the transit time.
If you have a subscription, remember to change your address before your order is placed by going to your Coconut Cult Account. After you log in select 'Manage' and then select "Subscription Info".
Scroll a little further down, and you'll find the box with your shipping address to edit.
Do you ship internationally?
We do not offer international shipping at this time. If you choose to forward your order through a third-party carrier service, please note that we cannot be held responsible for any delays, damages, or quality issues.
Our yogurt is perishable and needs to stay cold and our packaging is specifically engineered to protect the cultures and maintain freshness within our 2-day domestic UPS shipping window.
We love that our cult is spreading far and wide, but for now, we can only guarantee product integrity within the U.S. shipping timeframe.

Sometimes! If there's enough demand, a limited-edition flavor may return for a limited time. The best way to stay in the know:
- Subscribe to SMS
- Sign up for our email list
- Follow us on Instagram @thecoconutcult
Can I return the product if I don't like the taste?
Our yogurt is intentionally different from conventional yogurt, it's tangier, bubblier, and more alive than anything you've probably tasted before. That can be surprising if you're new to fermented products.
If you're finding it too tangy, try:
- Mixing with a little honey or maple syrup
- Adding it to a smoothie
- Mixing into oatmeal
We do not accept returns as we are a perishable product; however, we will offer re-ships in the event the product is damaged or delayed in shipping due to our shipping partner, UPS.
Food Safety, Allergens & Dietary Needs
Is your yogurt safe during pregnancy?
In our experience, many pregnant women, nursing mothers, and their young children love our yogurt, but everyone's situation is different. We recommend consulting your healthcare physician prior to consuming to ensure this is the right product for you.
Is your yogurt safe for kids?
Typically, once you are able to introduce coconut into your child's diet, they are ready to try our yogurt. Just give them smaller amounts, like 1 teaspoon to start. Many parents use it as a gentle, delicious way to support their kids' digestion and immunity. But everyone is different and it's always best to check with your healthcare provider before introducing new foods into your child's diet!
What allergens are in your products?
At the Coconut Cult, food safety and allergen awareness are extremely important to us. Coconut is the base ingredient in all of our products. Any major allergens or potential allergens are always clearly listed on the label for each flavor.
Coconut Allergen Status
Coconut is the primary ingredient in all of our products. As of January 1, 2025, coconut is no longer classified as a major food allergen under U.S. allergen labeling regulations. However, because coconut is the base ingredient in our products and some individuals may still have sensitivities, The Coconut Cult continues to clearly list coconut on all product labels for transparency and consumer awareness.
While our yogurts are not Certified Gluten-Free, the ingredients used in our formulations are Gluten-free.
Our products are manufactured in an FDA-regulated food production facility operating under strict sanitation and food safety protocols. All production equipment, utensils, and food contact surfaces are cleaned and sanitized according to FDA regulations and our internal food safety standards. Equipment is cleaned and sanitized after each production cycle, and sanitation effectiveness is routinely verified.
We monitor for the nine major allergens recognized in the United States, including:
● Milk (Dairy)
● Eggs
● Fish
● Shellfish
● Tree Nuts
● Peanuts
● Wheat
● Soybeans
● Sesame
To support allergen control, we maintain several food safety measures, including:
● Allergen surface swab testing following production runs that involve allergenic ingredients
● Review of Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for all incoming ingredients
● A comprehensive HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) food safety program
From time to time, The Coconut Cult partners with other brands to create limited-edition collaboration flavors. If a collaboration includes ingredients produced by a partner brand, any major allergens or potential allergens associated with those ingredients will always be clearly disclosed on the product label.
When applicable, collaboration ingredients may be incorporated without being processed through our standard manufacturing equipment. For additional details about how those ingredients are produced, we recommend contacting the collaborating brand directly for information about their manufacturing practices.
Is your yogurt dairy-free?
Yes — 100% dairy-free and contains no milk, whey, casein, or any other dairy-derived ingredient. It is suitable for people who are lactose intolerant, dairy-allergic, or following a vegan or plant-based diet.
Is your yogurt low-FODMAP?
Coconut products can be consumed in small amounts on a low-FODMAP diet — and our 2oz serving size may be appropriate for many individuals following this protocol. That said, tolerance varies. We recommend checking with a registered dietitian or your healthcare provider if you're managing FODMAP-sensitive conditions like IBS.
Can your yogurt help people who are lactose intolerant?
Absolutely, and this is one of the most common reasons people find us. Our yogurt is entirely dairy-free and lactose-free. It delivers all of the gut-health and probiotic benefits of traditional yogurt without any of the lactose. People who have struggled to consume dairy probiotics often find our yogurt to be the perfect solution.
