Some spoonfuls are thick and mousse-like. Others are softer, with a little extra tang. If you’ve ever opened a jar and thought, “This one’s a little different,” let’s talk about why. 🤔
Coconut Cult is made through the process of fermentation. That’s where our signature tang and lively texture come from, and why every jar doesn't have to be an exact copy of the last.
What does Coconut Cult taste like?
Expect coconut, the flavor you picked, and a distinctly fermented tang. Even our dessert-inspired flavors have that tart personality. Chocolate can be chocolatey and tangy. Same goes for a spoonful inspired by your favorite cake.
New to the Cult? That first bite might surprise you. We like a little personality on our spoons. 🥄 😉
Why is one jar tangier than another?
Fermentation isn’t perfectly uniform. Taste and tang can vary from batch to batch, and our live cultures continue working during refrigerated storage.
That means a jar can become more sour/tangy as it gets closer to its sell-by date. Two jars of the same flavor may taste a little different if they’re at different points in their shelf life.
A stronger tang doesn’t necessarily mean a different recipe. It can reflect the jar's continued fermentation.
Why does the texture vary?
We make Coconut Cult without gums, fillers, or preservatives. Without added gums to keep every spoonful the same consistency, some natural variation comes with the territory.
You might open one jar to a thick, fluffy, mousse-like texture and find that the next is softer. Season of ingredients and fermentation can all influence the texture.
The experience may vary a little. The love of fermentation stays the same.
What about bubbles or a little fizz?
Live fermentation can produce gas, which may show up as bubbles, a lightly fizzy sensation, or a little pop when you open the lid.
That natural effervescence is part of the Coconut Cult experience. Some jars have more of it than others.
Bubbles aren’t a way to measure probiotic levels. A quieter spoonful doesn’t tell you how many live cultures it contains.
Is liquid on top normal?
Some separation can happen, leaving a layer of liquid on top, bottom, or throughout the jar as you enjoy. We recommend not stirring or mixing, as this can affect the texture. However, lots of culties like mixing and adding to smoothies.
Always use a clean spoon, keep your jar refrigerated, and skip the double dipping. Your next spoonful deserves a fresh start.
What if something seems off?
Natural variation doesn’t mean every change should be brushed off. Tang, bubbles, or texture alone can’t confirm that a product is safe to eat.
If you’re concerned about a jar, hold off on eating it and reach out to orderonline@thecoconutcult.com. Include photos, the sell-by date, where you purchased it, and a quick description of what you noticed. Those details help our team look into it.
Intentionally different 🪄
Bold tang. Creamy coconut. A texture with some personality.
Fermentation makes every jar a little lively, and we’re here for the spoonfuls that keep things interesting.
